Team Spirit Long Beach News

This is why we run the run, walk the walk and talk the talk...

Remembering Debbie
Gary and Debbie Looney were married 35 years. They shared everything in their lives including their business, vacation cruises, friends, fine dining experiences and a philanthropic spirit. They opened their hearts to those less fortunate. They were best friends.

For the last yen years, Gary and Debbie have been the top contributors to Team Conley in the Team Spirit fight against breast and ovarian cancers. In February 2014, Gary lost his beloved wife Debbie, and so many others lost a dear friend, to breast cancer.

We miss her every day. Make your contribution to Memorial Medical Center Foundation, Team Spirit Long Beach so that no one else has to live the pain of losing their loved one to this terrible disease.

Fight the fight!

Help Gary Looney raise money to help those who continue the fight against breast & ovarian cancer!

The Heat Is On
We've all been checking the thermostat lately. Temperatures are rising. We hope your fundraising thermometer is at least as hot as it is outside!

We're in this together and we need to make a final push in the 12 days leading up to the Team Spirit Long Beach 15 year anniversary.

Remember, if EACH person reading this email is successful at asking 15 people to give him/her $15 (in honor of our 15 years strong), the 2014 Team Spirit Long Beach Breast and Ovarian Cancer 5K/10K will raise more than $500,000 for patient programs at the Todd Cancer Institute!

LET'S DO THIS!

Here's how:
  • Give your friends, family, business associates and acquaintances an update on your fundraising progress and WHAT Team Spirit Long Beach means to you.

  • Inform friends that September is National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Now is the time to give!

  • Let them know where their donation goes - it STAYS right here in Long Beach.

  • Let them know what their donation does - donations to Team Spirit Long Beach support breast and ovarian cancer programs at Long Beach Memorial's Todd Cancer Institute, specifically to fund a social worker, a psychosocial program, Women Guiding Women and a nurse navigator. Most of these services, critical to a patient's mental and emotional well-being, are not covered by health insurance. Thanks to the collaborative effort of Team Spirit Long Beach and its supporters, Long Beach Memorial and provide these services to all cancer patients and their families, regardless of their ability to pay.

  • "Go Viral" - Post your user friendly URL on Facebook page and ask Facebook friends to share it!

Include your user-friendly URL in your email to your distribution list which will take your contacts directly to your fundraising webpage. Thanks for your efforts!

  • Don't have a fundraising page? Call Jocelyn at 562.933.1661. She will be happy to assist you!

What's Raised Local Stays Local
All funds raised by the Team Spirit Long Beach Breast and Ovarian Cancer 5K/10K support our breast and ovarian cancer patients and their families living in and around our community as they navigate their cancer journey(s). These may be your family members, friends, neighbors and/or coworkers! It might be you.

Exercise

Join Team Spirit Long Beach and Help Yourself While Helping Others
The benefits of exercise for a cancer patient are numerous. Not only does exercise improve your mood, but it helps increase muscle strength, and promotes leaner body mass and less weight gain. Exercise also can help boost confidence, reduce fatigue and lower your risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

Yoga with an Ocean View?
On September 27th, beginning at approximately 7 AM, Chelsea Lowe will lead Team Spirit Long Beach participants in yoga, with an ocean view! Come early to secure your spot. To ensure participation for as many as possible, we will rotate 10 minute sessions both before and after all Team Spirit Long Beach events.
